Has anyone noticed recently that with AdBlock Plus on, the front page is now blocking 300+ pop ups just scrolling around? I don’t use any other extensions but that seems to have started recently. Anyone have an ideas why?

Probably from Kinja moving (more)
assets to CDNs.

Wow, i s it over 300? My counter (Disconnect, not ABP) maxes out at “99+”.

I was seeing a bug last week to where I would load a page and my AdBlock Plus extension kept racking up the count, about 100 per 30 seconds. The page’s performance was also quite bad, so once the ABP count reached 1,000 I closed the tab. I blame infinite scrolling.

Check this shit out. Happens with the infinite scrolling at the bottom of a page.

Yeah! I am basically seeing the same thing.

ABP on FF and it is blocking about 50 on all the GMG websites.

The number isn't a count of number of popups but the number of browser elements, e.g. images, scripts, etc. So one popup might count towards a few of those. Stuff like tracking scripts also count towards it.

A variable I hadn’t considered. Good info.

Yep, I’ve seen it. I assume they (or just as likely some ad network) has a script that behaves poorly when assets are being blocked. I imagine it will be fixed eventually.

Seems like a new scheme to punish people who use pop up blockers by bringing the page performance down to a crawl.
